I am so excited that launch day for the Abide Collection is finally here! It’s been so much fun getting these things together, I hope you enjoy them!
So a couple months ago I read this article by Jerry Bridges. (side note: I highly recommend reading it! I actually printed it and have re-read through it several times) It really just got me thinking and challenged me about what true godliness is.
…godliness can be defined as devotion to God which results in a life that is pleasing to Him. The practice of godliness is an exercise or discipline that focuses on God.
I am definitely a visual learner and a list girl, so this article helped me better understand what this devotion to God may look like.
Devotion in not an activity; it is an attitude toward God.
- The fear of God
- The love of God
- The desire for God
All three elements focus upon God. A God-centered lifestyle cannot be developed and maintained apart from a solid foundation of devotion to God.
Think of a triangle representing devotion to God, with these three elements as each of its three points. The fear of God and the love of God form the base of the triangle, while the desire for God is at the apex. As we study these elements individually, we will see that the fear of God and the love of God form the foundation of true devotion to God, while the desire for God is the highest expression of that devotion.
I just love the concept of this triangle and the truths that is represents! ABIDE seemed to fit right in to tie all of this together. As long as I am abiding in Him then I will have a love for God, a fear of God, and also a desire for God. As long as my life “acts in accordance” to the things of God and “remains” within the truths of His Word, then I believe my life will be pleasing to Him.
And really, in the end, that is what I desire: for my life to bring honor and glory to Him and that He is pleased with how I have lived.
So, I hope as you wear or see the items in this collection you will be reminded and encouraged to live your life abiding in Him!
Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.
